Chile Secures Top Position in Latin American AI Index 2024

Chile continues to lead the Latin American Artificial Intelligence Index (ILIA 2024) with a score of 73.07, demonstrating substantial progress in AI readiness. Following Chile, Brazil and Uruguay also excelled in AI implementation. Despite growth in AI talent, challenges persist in ensuring equitable representation and addressing infrastructure needs across the region.

On September 24, 2024, Chile’s National Center for Artificial Intelligence (CENIA) and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) unveiled the results of the second edition of the Latin American Artificial Intelligence Index (ILIA 2024). This comprehensive study assessed the AI preparedness of 19 countries across the region, with Chile achieving the highest score of 73.07 points out of a possible 100, followed by Brazil and Uruguay.

The Latin American Artificial Intelligence Index (ILIA) serves as a pivotal tool for evaluating the status of artificial intelligence capabilities in various Latin American and Caribbean nations. In its second edition, the index emphasizes the importance of AI in fostering innovation and addressing socio-economic challenges. The index is crucial for informing national strategies and policies regarding AI implementation and development in the region.

The findings from the ILIA 2024 highlight Chile as a leader in artificial intelligence readiness within Latin America, showcasing the nation’s robust investment in technological infrastructure and policy frameworks. However, significant challenges remain, particularly in ensuring equitable participation of women in AI research and maintaining urgency in resource allocation. The importance of AI in driving innovation and development underscores the need for continued focus and investment in this area to navigate the digital transformation effectively.
