Niger Legislators Endorse Initiative to Support At-Risk Children

The Niger State House of Assembly is committed to supporting at-risk children through a partnership with the State At-Risk Children Programme (ARC-P). This collaboration aims to provide skills training and employment opportunities for vulnerable youths, aligning with Governor Mohammed Umar Bago’s New Niger Agenda. The program focuses on various developmental pillars to integrate at-risk individuals into society effectively.

The Niger State House of Assembly has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with various stakeholders, particularly the State At-Risk Children Programme (ARC-P), to enhance support and protection for vulnerable children in the state. This commitment was articulated by Mallam Farouq Umar Isah, Clerk of the House, during an advocacy visit from ARC-P officials at the Assembly Complex in Minna. He commended the initiative’s potential to benefit the people of Niger significantly.

Mallam Isah noted that the objectives of the ARC-P align seamlessly with Governor Mohammed Umar Bago’s New Niger Agenda, which prioritizes critical sectors such as health, education, and agriculture. Aisha Umar Tafida, the State Team Leader and Coordinator of ARC-P, elaborated on the program’s mission to integrate at-risk children and young adults into society. This is achieved through the provision of skills training and employment opportunities, effectively reducing their vulnerabilities and enabling them to compete globally.

She highlighted that the ARC-P encompasses seven key pillars: Basic Literacy and Numeracy (Education), Health and Nutrition, Agriculture and Climate Change, Entrepreneurial and Financial Literacy, Digital Skills and Creativity, Sports and Life Skills, and Incentivisation/Intervention. These initiatives seek to foster the integration of at-risk children and young adults, thus equipping them with essential skills necessary to thrive alongside their more advantaged peers.

The focus on at-risk children arises from the pressing need to address vulnerabilities many young individuals face in society, particularly in regions like Niger State, where socio-economic challenges persist. The ARC-P initiative represents a strategic response to these challenges, aiming to offer holistic support through education, health, and skill development. This collaboration highlights the importance of community and governmental partnerships in creating impactful social programs that strive to uplift underprivileged populations.

In conclusion, the partnership between the Niger State House of Assembly and the State At-Risk Children Programme signifies a critical step toward fostering the well-being and development of vulnerable children in the state. Through strategic initiatives focusing on education, health, and skills training, the program aims to empower at-risk youths, allowing them to overcome challenges and thrive in a competitive global society.
