The GCTF workshop, “Building Climate Change Resilience for Small Island States,” held in Tuvalu on August 15-16, 2024, was co-organized by Tuvalu, Taiwan, the U.S., Australia, and Japan. The workshop titled “Building Climate Change Resilience for Small Island States” was convened in Funafuti, Tuvalu, on August 15-16, 2024, under the Global Cooperation and Training Framework (GCTF). This significant event marked the inaugural GCTF workshop in Tuvalu and was jointly organized by Tuvalu, Taiwan, the United States, Australia, and Japan. The workshop attracted over 60 participants from the aforementioned countries, as well as representatives from Palau, the Marshall Islands, and Sweden. Prominent attendees included Brenton Garlick from the Australian High Commission, Michael Glees from the U.S. Agency for International Development, and Tuvalu’s Minister of Home Affairs, Climate Change, and Environment, Maina Talia.
Participants engaged in meaningful discussions to share policy measures aimed at enhancing multilateral cooperation on climate change issues. They also partook in field trips to observe land reclamation sites and floating solar energy projects under the Tuvalu Coastal Adaptation Project. Since its inception in 2015 by Taiwan and the U.S., the GCTF has served as an essential platform for exchanging solutions to global challenges, having expanded to include Japan, Australia, and Canada, with events now hosted beyond the founding nations since 2021.
