Sudan has consequently lodged a formal complaint with the United Nations Security Council, accusing the UAE of supplying military equipment and sophisticated weapons to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) through Chad.
Malik Agar, the deputy chairman of Sudan’s Sovereign Council, stated that the UAE’s attempt to convene a meeting on February 14, alongside the African Union summit, represents a crime against an African nation prioritizing its sovereignty. He criticized the move as being in stark contradiction to the African Union’s principles, which emphasize respect for national sovereignty and unity among member states.
Agar emphasized that the UAE seeks to impose its political agenda on the conference by requesting participation from important figures such as the UN Secretary-General and the Ethiopian Prime Minister. He accused the UAE of creating a political environment disconnected from Sudan’s interests, likening the conference to a political bazaar catering to Emirati agendas. Additionally, he urged Ethiopia to consider mutual interests while lauding Egypt’s refusal to endorse the UAE’s initiative.
Moreover, Agar declared Sudan’s resolute opposition to any discussions concerning its internal affairs without its direct involvement, particularly when initiated by non-African Union nations. The Sudanese government believes that the UAE’s motives are aimed at obscuring its alleged support for terrorism in Sudan through military aid to the RSF. “Sudan will not accept any interference… we call on all countries and peace-loving peoples… to stand together in the face of these attempts” – Malik Agar.
Agar further noted ongoing efforts by the Sudanese Armed Forces to restore stability and security amid the RSF’s rebellion, insisting that while a military resolution is essential, it should pave the way for a comprehensive political dialogue that protects victims’ rights and re-establishes governance. He urged the African Union to reassess its stance on Sudan, advocating for a roadmap that encompasses a national dialogue, an independent government, and guaranteed freedoms, all consistent with national interests.
