Turkish Support Essential for Stability in Libya, Says HoR Foreign Affairs Head

The Head of the HoR’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Youssef Al-Agouri, emphasized Turkey’s crucial support for Libya’s stability during a meeting with the Turkish Consul. Initiatives such as a Libyan-Turkish parliamentary friendship committee and the return of Turkish Airlines contribute to strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing economic collaboration.

Youssef Al-Agouri, the Head of the Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Committee of the House of Representatives (HoR), emphasized Turkey’s key role in promoting stability within Libya. His comments were made during a discussion with the Turkish Consul, Sarkan Karmanlioglu, at the HoR’s office in Benghazi, as reported by spokesperson Abdullah Blehiq.

During this meeting, Al-Agouri mentioned the formation of a Libyan-Turkish parliamentary friendship committee led by Al-Salihin Abdul Nabi, urging Turkey to activate its friendship group within the Turkish National Assembly. This initiative is intended to bolster political cooperation between the two nations.

On the economic front, Al-Agouri invited Turkish enterprises to engage in Libya and continue their ongoing projects. He also expressed gratitude for the support received from Turkey during the devastation caused by Storm Daniel in September 2023.

In response, the Turkish Consul underscored the strong bilateral relations, affirming Turkey’s commitment to Libya’s stability and growth. He highlighted the upcoming opening of the new Turkish consulate in Benghazi, which will facilitate direct visa processing for Libyan citizens.

Moreover, the Consul announced the resumption of direct Turkish Airlines flights to Benghazi, after a considerable hiatus. He also noted that a delegation from Turkish universities recently visited the University of Benghazi to discuss scholarship opportunities for Libyan students.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Al-Agouri extended an invitation to Turkish businessmen to visit Libya to explore further collaborative efforts.

In summary, the discussions between Youssef Al-Agouri and the Turkish Consul highlighted the importance of Turkish support for Libya’s stability and development. The establishment of a parliamentary friendship committee, invitations for Turkish companies, and the return of Turkish flight services signify a strengthening of ties. These steps are essential for enhancing cooperation and fostering economic growth in Libya.
