US Intelligence Warns of Possible Israeli Strike on Iran by Midyear

U.S. intelligence warns that Israel plans a potential preemptive strike on Iran’s nuclear program by midyear. This action could escalate tensions, with only minimal delays expected in Iran’s nuclear progress. President Trump remains focused on preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weaponry while pursuing diplomatic resolutions.

According to various intelligence reports, U.S. officials have expressed concerns that Israel may conduct a preemptive strike on Iran’s nuclear program by midyear. The Washington Post highlighted that both the previous Biden administration and the current Trump administration assessed that such an attack could only momentarily disrupt Iran’s nuclear advancements while significantly heightening regional tensions and the risk of an extended conflict.

White House National Security Council spokesperson Brian Hughes conveyed that President Donald Trump remains committed to preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon. He noted Trump’s preference for a diplomatic solution, stating that the President will not tolerate delays in negotiations with Iran.

The most comprehensive intelligence evaluation released in early January by the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Defense Intelligence Agency indicated that Israeli forces might target Iran’s Fordow and Natanz nuclear facilities. Current and former U.S. officials believe that an Israeli air raid on Iran in October 2024 weakened the latter’s air defenses, creating a potential opportunity for further strikes.

In concurrence, the Wall Street Journal reported similar intentions from Tel Aviv. In a recent Fox News interview, President Trump reiterated his desire to negotiate a deal with Iran to avert the threat of a nuclear weapon. Additionally, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi mentioned that conversations involving Iran, Britain, France, and Germany are ongoing in Geneva to potentially revive nuclear negotiations.

U.S. intelligence suggests that Israel may strike Iran’s nuclear facilities by midyear, a move likely to escalate regional tensions. The potential attack could only delay Iran’s nuclear progress briefly while risking broader conflict. President Trump emphasizes a preference for peaceful negotiations, but is firm on preventing Iran from developing nuclear capabilities. As discussions continue among concerned nations, the geopolitical climate remains tense.
