Google Enhances Journalistic Skills with AI Training Workshop in Lagos

Google hosted an Artificial Intelligence (AI) workshop through its News Initiative (GNI) in Lagos, aimed at enhancing journalists’ storytelling skills and production capabilities. This event highlights Google’s unwavering support for the media in addressing the challenges and prospects introduced by AI. The workshop catered to equipping journalists with advanced technological skills essential for modern news reporting.

Mr. Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Google’s Communication and Public Affairs Manager for West Africa, emphasized the company’s mission of “Organising the world’s information and making it universally accessible and useful.” He stated this vision extends to the news sector, focusing on advancing quality journalism while strengthening the business models of publishers and fostering a cooperative global news community.

Kola-Ogunlade elaborated on Google’s initiative to extend AI resources to various regions and languages, ensuring journalists can effectively utilize AI tools. He noted, “Through initiatives like AI training workshops, we provide journalists and creators with tools such as Gemini, Pinpoint, and NotebookLM to enhance research, fact-checking, and content creation.” This effort demonstrates Google’s goal to responsibly engage with AI while providing publishers autonomy over their content.
