However, following the worsening conditions during the race, it was decided that the event would not proceed as planned.
The canceled final stage would have covered a distance of 72 km and was meant to include circuits around Nyabugogo, Norvege, Kimisagara, and Kwa Mutwe. As heavy rain started just before the race began on Sunday, officials deemed the conditions unsafe, ultimately leading to the stage being declared void. Therefore, the final standings reflected the results of the previous stages, culminating with the Stage 6 general classification.
Doubey entered the final stage leading the general classification with a total time of 19 hours, 35 minutes, and 12 seconds, just six seconds ahead of Eritrea’s Henok Mulubrahan. This victory makes the 31-year-old Doubey the oldest rider to claim a win in the Tour du Rwanda. He showcased remarkable endurance throughout the six stages leading up to the final, securing the yellow jersey.
Rwandan cyclist Vainqueur Masengesho, representing Team Rwanda, finished seventh overall in this year’s competition, finishing just 51 seconds behind Doubey. Additionally, notable performances from local cyclists included Shemu Nsengiyumva of Java-InovoTec, who earned the best climber award, and Samuel Niyonkuru from Kenyan Team Amani, recognized as the best breakaway rider.
