The NPP Minority Caucus rejected President Mahama’s claim of resolving Ghana’s power crisis in 2016. Former Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam challenged the President to publish a load-shedding timetable due to ongoing outages. The Minority emphasized the negative impact on businesses and called for measures to help manage power disruptions effectively.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus in Parliament publicly disputed President John Dramani Mahama’s assertions that his administration had successfully addressed Ghana’s ongoing power crisis, known as “dumsor,” by 2016. Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, a former Finance Minister, challenged the President to publish a load-shedding timetable in light of persistent power outages that continue to affect daily life in Ghana.
Dr. Adam criticized President Mahama, stating, “Mr. President, you did not fix ‘dumsor’ as you claimed in your address. Your record on ‘dumsor’ is abysmal, unlike your predecessor, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who kept the lights on.” He expressed concern about the resurgence of power outages during Mahama’s current term, which has left many Ghanaians anxious over potential disruptions to their lives and businesses.
The Minority Caucus underscored the adverse effects of power outages on small businesses reliant on stable electricity sources. Dr. Adam added, “Many people and businesses have already felt the pinch and the pain of living with the current ‘dumsor.'” He noted the resurgence of backup generators in various settings, including shops, clinics, and social functions.
To alleviate the challenges posed by erratic power supply, the Minority called for the government to disclose a load-shedding timetable. Dr. Amin Adam stated, “Mr. President, this is the true state of our nation. To mitigate the impact of these erratic power supplies, we, the Mighty Minority, call on the government to publish a load-shedding timetable to help people and businesses plan effectively and offset some of the losses the economy is currently suffering from.”
In conclusion, the NPP Minority Caucus strongly refuted President Mahama’s claims of successfully resolving the power crisis known as ‘dumsor.’ Through the remarks of Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, they highlighted the continued challenges faced by Ghanaians due to power outages and called on the government to implement a load-shedding timetable to assist affected individuals and businesses.
