External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar recently visited London, where he engaged in bilateral talks with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The discussions focused on enhancing economic cooperation and fostering people-to-people exchanges between India and the United Kingdom. During the meeting, the UK Prime Minister also expressed his views on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

In addition to Prime Minister Starmer, Mr. Jaishankar met with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy and other prominent leaders. On social media platform X, Jaishankar stated, “Delighted to call on Prime Minister @Keir_Starmer at @10DowningStreet today… PM Starmer also shared the UK’s perspective on the Ukraine conflict.”

Jaishankar’s interactions included a meeting with Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, where the two leaders addressed issues surrounding talent flow and collaborative efforts to combat trafficking and extremism. He remarked, “A good meeting with Home Secretary @YvetteCooperMP today in London. We discussed talent flow, people exchanges, and joint strategies against trafficking and extremism.”

Furthermore, discussions with Jonathan Reynolds, Secretary of State for Business and Trade, centered on the progress of the free trade agreement between India and the UK. Jaishankar shared on X, “Pleased to meet Secretary of State for @biztradegovuk @jreynoldsMP today… Discussed the progress on our FTA talks.”

Throughout his official visit to the United Kingdom, which will continue until March 9, Jaishankar seeks to reinforce India’s friendly relations with both the UK and Ireland. Following his engagements in the UK, he is scheduled to visit Ireland, where he will meet with officials and members of the Indian community.
