Najat Aoun Saliba, a member of the Lebanese parliament, has made significant contributions to both politics and science. Elected in 2022, she is also a Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the American University of Beirut. Her past roles include directing AUB’s Nature Conservation Center and founding Khaddit Beirut, an initiative addressing post-explosion recovery. Saliba was recognized as a laureate of the L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science in 2019.
Saliba’s academic journey commenced at the Lebanese University, followed by advanced studies in the United States where she earned her master’s and doctoral degrees. Her research has focused on critical issues such as water pollution and sustainability. Returning to Lebanon, Saliba’s commitment to ecological preservation materialized through her leadership roles in conservation initiatives.
