The Indian Ministry of External Affairs condemned the security breach during Minister S. Jaishankar’s UK visit, criticizing extremist activities by pro-Khalistan separatists. Jaishankar addressed international issues, including tariffs and bilateral cooperation, during his visit and conveyed greetings from Prime Minister Modi to the UK Prime Minister.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) expressed its discontent regarding a security breach that occurred during External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s recent visit to the United Kingdom. Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal condemned the actions of a small group of separatists and extremists, emphasizing the need for the host government to uphold their diplomatic responsibilities.
During Jaishankar’s visit, pro-Khalistan demonstrators protested outside Chatham House in London, where he participated in a session entitled ‘India’s Rise and Role in the World.’ The MEA underscored the inappropriateness of such provocative activities, stating that they misuse democratic freedoms which should not be exploited by any group.
In his address at Chatham House, Jaishankar discussed several international topics, including a comment on tariffs related to former President Trump’s administration. He noted, “We see a president and an administration which, in our parlance, is moving towards multipolarity, and that is something that suits India.” He highlighted that discussions on trade were ongoing as Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal was engaged in talks in Washington.
Furthermore, Jaishankar met with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at 10 Downing Street, where he delivered “warm greetings” from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The discussions encompassed themes of bilateral cooperation and the UK’s viewpoint regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, indicating the depth of dialogue between the two nations.
The MEA’s response to the security breach during Minister Jaishankar’s UK visit highlighted the importance of diplomatic protocol and the inappropriate exploitation of democratic freedoms by extremists. Jaishankar’s discussions on international matters, tariffs, and bilateral relations reflected India’s strategic positioning in global diplomacy and trade initiatives. It is crucial for host governments to ensure the safety of visiting dignitaries and uphold their diplomatic commitments.
