Kuwait has signed a partnership with Microsoft to enhance its AI applications and digital infrastructure, aligning with Kuwait Vision 2035. Kuwait’s Central Agency for Information Technology (CAIT) and the Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA) have entered into a strategic partnership with Microsoft Corporation to accelerate digital transformation and advance artificial intelligence (AI) applications in the nation. This collaboration is expected to help Kuwait establish itself as a regional AI hub in alignment with Kuwait Vision 2035, as expressed by Minister of State for Communications Affairs Omar Saud Abdul-Aziz Al-Omar during a press conference following the signing ceremony.
Minister Al-Omar highlighted that this initiative reflects the guidance of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, with oversight from His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. The partnership is seen as a significant advancement in deploying AI applications that will assist the government’s efforts toward economic diversification and fostering innovation and entrepreneurship.
The agreement includes the establishment of an AI data center, an integrated AI system, a center to promote the digital economy, and a center for excellence in cloud auditing. Moreover, the government plans to equip civil servants with access to Microsoft 365 Copilot, positioning Kuwait as one of the first countries in the region to implement such solutions aimed at enhancing productivity and improving state services, as remarked by Minister Al-Omar.
Al-Omar also emphasized that the establishment of cloud auditing centers, enhancements to digital infrastructure, and expedited access to Microsoft services are crucial for attracting global investors and furthering innovation and entrepreneurship in Kuwait.
Samer Abu-Ltaif, Microsoft’s corporate vice president for the Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East, and Africa (CEMA), affirmed that the partnership is anticipated to bolster Kuwait’s digital infrastructure and contribute to its economic prosperity and sustainability. He confirmed Microsoft’s commitment to upgrading Kuwait’s cloud infrastructure and assisting state institutions in driving innovation and investment. Additionally, there is a plan to launch the Cybersphere initiative to enhance cybersecurity within the government sector to protect against cyberattacks.
