On March 5, 2025, President Nangolo Mbumba initiated the launch of the Hage Geingob commemorative banknote in Windhoek, Namibia, honoring the significant contributions of the late former president. In his keynote address, President Mbumba referred to Geingob as a “nation builder,” highlighting that this unique 60-Namibian-dollar banknote serves as a lasting tribute to the former president’s vision and the profound impact he had on Namibia. The note is designated as a collector’s item and will also serve as legal tender.
Bank of Namibia Governor Johannes Gawaxab remarked on Geingob’s dedication of 60 years to public service, illustrating the significance of the number 60 in relation to his lifelong commitment to the nation. Gawaxab announced that a new series of banknotes and coins will be launched in June, incorporating the latest security features to ensure modernity and resilience.
Previously, in 2020, the Bank of Namibia released its first commemorative banknote—a 30-Namibian-dollar note—celebrating the country’s 30th independence anniversary. This banknote, printed on a durable polymer substrate, featured prominent figures including the founding President Sam Nujoma, former President Hifikepunye Pohamba, and Geingob, representing the legacy of peace and progress in Namibia.
