BCB President Faruque Ahmed announced that Pakistan is likely to tour Bangladesh in mid-2025 for white-ball matches. Bangladesh will also visit Pakistan in May. The BCB plans to prepare for the 2027 World Cup and select a new T20I captain following recent leadership changes. Plans for Mushfiqur Rahim’s farewell are also underway after his ODI retirement.
According to BCB president Faruque Ahmed, Pakistan is expected to tour Bangladesh for a series of white-ball matches in mid-2025. Following discussions with PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi at the Champions Trophy, a return tour has been tentatively planned for July and August.
Faruque stated, “The PCB told us that they would tour Bangladesh outside of the FTP. There might be a short tour in July, which we have mostly confirmed. We will inform you when we finalize it.” Bangladesh is also set to visit Pakistan in May for three ODIs and three T20Is.
With the recent group-stage elimination from the Champions Trophy, Faruque indicated that the BCB will focus on preparing for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. He mentioned that changes in cricket operations will be discussed with heads of the BCB’s committees.
As Bangladesh contemplates the T20I team structure after Najmul Hossain Shanto’s resignation from the captaincy, Faruque pointed out that a new captain will be selected from those who have recently led the team, suggesting that many expect Litton Das to be the frontrunner.
Additionally, the BCB is organizing a farewell for Mushfiqur Rahim, who recently announced his retirement from ODIs. Faruque expressed gratitude towards Rahim, stating, “He is one of the architects of Bangladesh cricket over the last 19 years.”
In summary, Pakistan’s anticipated tour of Bangladesh in mid-2025 is a significant development in the cricketing calendar, amidst ongoing preparations for the upcoming World Cup and transitions in team leadership. The farewell celebration for Mushfiqur Rahim reflects the BCB’s appreciation for his contributions to the sport over nearly two decades. Key decisions regarding team captains and operational strategies will shape Bangladesh’s cricketing future.
