A team of South Sudanese fighters is heading to Thailand to compete in the World Muay Thai Championship from March 4 to March 18. Representing the nation are Abednego Thon, Sky Okony, and James Majok Gau. A South Sudanese team of fighters departed from Juba en route to Thailand on Friday, aiming to participate in the World Muay Thai Championship. This prestigious tournament commences on March 4 and continues until March 18, featuring competitors from numerous countries such as Algeria, Russia, the Netherlands, Canada, Italy, France, Iran, Brazil, Latvia, the Philippines, Spain, Thailand, Myanmar, India, and China.

The South Sudan national team is represented by fighters Abednego Thon (Wizzy), Sky Okony, and James Majok Gau. In an interview with Radio Tamazuj at the Juba International Airport, the President of the South Sudan Kickboxing Federation, Puro Okello Oboo, conveyed confidence in his athletes’ abilities. He stated, “We are traveling to Thailand to represent South Sudan in the ongoing championship. The fighters are prepared and will bring good results.”

Wizzy expressed his appreciation for the chance to represent the nation, remarking, “We are happy to represent South Sudan. We are hopeful that we will bring home a trophy as a sign of unity.” Sky Okony further highlighted the role of martial arts in enhancing social connections among individuals. “All eyes of the South Sudanese are on us. We will do our best to make this country proud,” he emphasized.
