Following the attack, President Kiir noted in a national address that General Majur Dak was among the casualties and cited assurances from the opposition leader, Machar, concerning the safety of the general and his men.

Information Minister Michael Makuei reported that approximately 27 troops were killed in the incident, alongside a U.N. crew member. In response, the U.N. called on all parties to cease further violence and urged South Sudan’s leaders to engage in dialogue to stabilize the security situation in Nasir and across the country.
