Government Renames Sabata Secondary School in Honor of Wafula Chebukati

The government plans to rename Sabata Secondary School in honor of the late Wafula Chebukati, former IEBC Chair. The initiative, requested by Kiminini Legislator Kakai Bisau, will include renovations and the construction of 15 modern classrooms. The school will also be developed into a digital centre of excellence, promoting employment opportunities for local youth.

The government has revealed intentions to renovate and rename Sabata Secondary School in Trans Nzoia County in tribute to the late Wafula Chebukati, former Chair of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). This decision follows a request from Kiminini Legislator Kakai Bisau during Chebukati’s burial service, which President William Ruto endorsed while in attendance.

The project will include the construction of 15 modern classrooms to enhance the school’s facilities. Legislator Bisau emphasized the significance of renaming the school, stating that Chebukati’s announcement of the 2022 presidential election results was pivotal in preventing potential violence, showcasing his courage and commitment to integrity in a charged political atmosphere.

Furthermore, the renovation will not only involve general improvements but also establish the school as a digital centre of excellence, reflecting Chebukati’s passion for information technology. Legislator Bisau remarked, “Chebukati was an IT lover and enthusiast. We would want to see a digital centre of excellence being set up at Sabata Secondary.” This initiative aims to unlock digital opportunities and foster employment for the youth and local residents, aligning with the government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

In summary, the government’s initiative to rename and renovate Sabata Secondary School honors the legacy of Wafula Chebukati, reflecting his dedication to integrity and public service. The renovation will not only modernize the school but also establish it as a digital hub, providing essential opportunities for the community and promoting economic growth as outlined by national policies. This tribute signifies a lasting acknowledgment of Chebukati’s contributions to Kenya’s democratic processes and technological advancement.
