The 86th Kenya Open Fullbore Championship, held at the Laikipia KDF Range in Nanyuki, saw the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) secure multiple titles. This prestigious event gathered 64 of the finest shooters from various organizations, including the National Police Service and the British Royal Air Force, with the objective of enhancing marksmanship proficiency through shooting challenges at distances of 300 to 900 meters.
Competitors vied for several notable titles, such as the McCallum Cup, the Standard Newspaper Cup, and the Bob Morgan Memorial Cup, among others. Participants were required to execute essential shooting tasks within a strict timeline of 45 seconds, including accurate wind and mirage assessments and necessary adjustments for wind conditions.
Warrant Officer Class 2 Wilberforce Kerema excelled in this intense competition, winning the Standard Newspaper Cup, the Stuart Wortley Cup, and the Short Range Aggregate Cup in Class XI, while also claiming a bronze in the Lt. Gen. (Rtd) ASK Njoroge Cup. Other notable performances came from Senior Sergeant Brenda Ojiambo, who secured a silver in the Lt. Gen. (Rtd) ASK Njoroge Cup, along with commendable contributions from Senior Private Eston Mwangi, Sergeant Michael Mwangi, Sergeant Francis Jillo, and Staff Sergeant Paul Munene.
Recognizing excellence, Staff Sergeant Joyce Chebii and Staff Sergeant Brenda Ojiambo were honored as the overall best female shooters in the tournament. Furthermore, a total of ten KDF members earned selection to represent Kenya at the upcoming Bisley competition in the United Kingdom later this year.
