On February 27, 2023, Italian Ambassador to Tanzania, Giuseppe Coppola, presented his letters of credence to President Azali Assoumani of the Union of the Comoros. The President expressed a desire to further strengthen the already robust bilateral and multilateral relations with Italy, recalling his participation as the President of the African Union during the Italy-Africa summit in January 2024.

Ambassador Coppola, accompanied by Honorary Consul Saverio Grillone, engaged in discussions with several Comorian ministers, including Aboubacar Said Anli (Energy, Water and Hydrocarbons), Daniel Ali Bandar (Agriculture, Fisheries and Handicrafts), and Abubakar Ben Mahmoud (Environment and Tourism). These ministers emphasized the need for increased Italian involvement in the Comoros archipelago.

The Ambassador also met with the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Imam Abdillah, to explore avenues for revitalizing bilateral relations. This exchange focused on ongoing Italian initiatives in waste management, renewable energy, and academic collaboration.

Furthermore, Ambassador Coppola interacted with the small, dynamic Italian community in Comoros, which includes Stefano Cusin, the head coach of the Comorian national football team and former Serie A player.
