The MEA spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, stated on social media, “Strengthening India-Mauritius enduring ties! PM @narendramodi has embarked on a 2-day State visit to Port Louis, Mauritius”. Modi expressed eagerness to engage with Mauritian leadership to deepen the bilateral partnership and foster friendship for regional security and development.
Modi characterized Mauritius as a “close maritime neighbour” and a key partner in the Indian Ocean, underscoring its significance as a gateway to Africa. He noted the historical and cultural connections enjoyed by both nations, stating, “We are connected by history, geography, and culture.”
Moreover, he highlighted the shared mutual trust and democratic values, stating, “The close and historical people-to-people connect is a source of shared pride.” He is optimistic that this visit will solidify the past foundations and pave the way for a bright future in the India-Mauritius relationship.
In addition, PM Modi will meet the President and Prime Minister of Mauritius, engage with political leaders, and connect with the Indian-origin community. He is also set to inaugurate the Civil Service College and the Area Health Centre, both funded by India. Several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) are anticipated to be signed during this visit.
