Rahul Gandhi Calls for Discussion on Voter Fraud Allegations in Parliament

Rahul Gandhi has called for a Lok Sabha discussion on alleged issues with voter lists, supported by the opposition. Trinamool Congress’ Saugata Roy also highlighted flaws, including identical EPIC numbers in various constituencies, demanding a thorough revision of these lists ahead of upcoming elections in West Bengal and Assam.

On Monday, Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition, requested a discussion in the Lok Sabha regarding the contentious issue of voter lists. During the Zero Hour proceedings, Mr. Gandhi highlighted that multiple political parties are raising significant concerns regarding these lists, emphasizing that the entire opposition has rallied for this discussion.

Mr. Gandhi acknowledged the government’s position that it does not create the voter lists, but insisted, “We demand a discussion on the issue.” He pointed out that there are widespread questions about voter lists across India and that the opposition has consistently voiced concerns in every state, including Maharashtra.

Additionally, Trinamool Congress member Saugata Roy raised similar issues, citing flaws in the voter lists. He mentioned instances where multiple voters with identical Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) numbers appeared in both Murshidabad and Burdwan constituencies in West Bengal, as well as in Haryana.

Mr. Roy indicated that a Trinamool delegation would engage with the newly-appointed Chief Election Commissioner to convey their concerns regarding these voter lists. He urged a comprehensive revision of the electoral rolls ahead of the assembly elections scheduled in West Bengal and Assam next year, citing examples of inflated voter lists in Maharashtra and Haryana.

He remarked, “Let the total voter lists be thoroughly revised. The Election Commission should answer to the country why some mistakes occurred in the lists.” This call to action reflects broader apprehensions regarding the integrity of voter lists as elections approach.

In conclusion, both Rahul Gandhi and Saugata Roy have raised substantial concerns regarding the integrity and accuracy of voter lists in India, advocating for a thorough discussion and revision. This underscores the importance of ensuring reliable electoral processes, especially with imminent elections in West Bengal and Assam. The collective demand from opposition leaders emphasizes the need for accountability from the Election Commission.
