The National Road No. 1 (EN1) is currently disrupted near the Anchilo Control Post due to heavy rain caused by the severe tropical storm JUDE. Restoration efforts on the EN1 are set to commence this Tuesday; however, there is currently no specified completion date for the works.
Faquira Massalo, the Director of Public Works in Nampula, has characterized the disruption on the EN1 as significant. Due to the highway’s critical importance, work to restore normal traffic flow will begin promptly, but the timeline for completion remains uncertain.
The cut spans approximately 15 meters in length and reaches a depth of 5 to 7 meters. The National Roads Administration (ANE), along with the contractor’s engineers, is assessing the site to devise an effective solution for water drainage. They plan to install washers to facilitate proper water flow.
At present, various areas in Nampula province are inaccessible, including sections of the road from Nametil to Angoche, from Nampula to Liúpio, and from the Naguema to Chocas-mar intersection, among others.
Anacleta Botão, the INGD delegate in Nampula, stated that concrete data on the cyclone’s impact is not yet available due to limitations faced by survey teams. Nonetheless, she confirmed that emergency kits are already in place at previously identified potential impact sites.
