It aims to encourage dialogue on enhancing policing through effective oversight for public safety and trust.
This significant lecture will occur at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel and will be live-streamed via the PCOA, Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) YouTube channels, and RJRGleaner social media platforms. Under the theme ‘Partnerships for Progress: Improving Policing Through Effective Oversight for a Safer Jamaica,’ this forum seeks to build collaborative efforts.
Featuring two expert speakers, Dr. Shon Barnes, Chief of Police of Seattle, and Marcia Thompson, Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at Aurora University, the lecture promises to deliver insights on fostering partnerships between law enforcement and civilian oversight bodies. Their discussions will focus on enhancing oversight mechanisms to bolster public trust and security.
Otarah Byfield-Nugent, the PCOA’s Chief Executive Officer, has underscored the critical nature of this event. “We have two dynamic speakers who will share their experiences on law enforcement partnerships and the benefits of civilian oversight for national security,” stated Byfield-Nugent.
This lecture also serves to honor the legacy of the late Oliver Clarke, who was pivotal in advancing civilian oversight in Jamaica.
