In Indonesia, over 1.3 million pieces of harmful content, encompassing pornography and online gambling, have been eliminated from the internet between October 2024 and March 2025, according to a statement from the Ministry of Communications and Digital. Among the removed content, 233,552 instances were related to pornography. Websites contributed 219,578 cases, while Platform X (formerly Twitter) was responsible for 10,173 cases, leaving 3,801 cases linked to other internet platforms.
In terms of online gambling, the ministry reported the removal of approximately 1.12 million pieces of content. Websites and IP addresses accounted for 1.02 million cases, while Meta platforms, including Facebook and Instagram, were associated with 46,207 cases. The remaining 55,368 cases were identified from various other platforms.
Despite these achievements, Alexander Sabar, the digital space oversight director-general, acknowledged that managing harmful content remains a formidable challenge. He noted that, within merely eight days in March 2025, over 58,000 pieces of harmful content were dealt with, indicating a continuous concern.
The ministry is enhancing its artificial intelligence-based monitoring system to expedite the detection of such content, while also collaborating with global digital platforms for more effective enforcement. Public reporting of harmful content is encouraged through the official channel, https://aduankonten.id, which allows individuals to submit links or screenshots for assessment.
Using this platform, the public can report various negative content types, such as fake news, pornography, hate speech, and online gambling, facilitating a collaborative effort in promoting a safer online environment.
