On Wednesday, an Emirati diplomat conveyed a letter from U.S. President Donald Trump to Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, as reported by Iranian media. The letter delivery occurred during a meeting with Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to the UAE president, as confirmed by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei.
In this letter, Trump expressed his desire for negotiations regarding a nuclear deal, stating, “I hope you’re going to negotiate because it’s going to be a lot better for Iran.” He accompanied this message with a warning to Tehran about potential military actions.
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, criticized Trump’s remarks, describing them as a manifestation of “bullying tactics.” He asserted that the discussions raised by certain powers do not seek genuine resolution but aim instead to impose their expectations, stating, “Absolutely, the Islamic Republic will not accept their expectations.”
Following Trump’s withdrawal from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal in 2018, sanctions were reimposed on Iran. Although Iran adhered to the deal for over a year, it progressively scaled back its commitments, citing the inaction of other signatories in safeguarding its interests.
