Ayesa, a Spanish engineering firm, has been selected to design a crucial section of Lima, Peru’s ambitious $3.4 billion Ring Road project. Led by developers Sacyr, Acciona, and Cintra, this project encompasses a 22-mile highway, of which Ayesa will focus on a nine-mile segment offering three lanes in each direction, twin tunnels, toll stations, and infrastructure to enhance local traffic flow.
The contract lasts 35 months, during which Ayesa will carry out definitive design cost and feasibility studies. The firm aims to comply with all regulatory, engineering, and safety standards, emphasized Mariluz Ramírez, Ayesa’s transport division director for Latin America.
Referred to as the Anillo Vial Periférico, this ring road will unite 11 districts in Lima and the port city of Callao. It is being funded through a public-private partnership model, relying on toll revenues for operational costs, maintenance, and initial capital expenses.
Peru’s Transportation Minister, Raúl Pérez-Reyes, noted the project’s significance, stating it would facilitate efficient transportation of goods and enhance connectivity for residents in outer districts. The project is poised to integrate advanced technologies such as building information management, asset management, and intelligent transport systems for optimal infrastructure efficiency.
In addition, the Ring Road is projected to create over 70,000 jobs during the construction phase, with 5,000 direct jobs.
