Sudan is facing a dire humanitarian crisis, as the civil war, which enters its third year next month, has resulted in a severe need for assistance among its population. The conflict between two opposing generals has left over 30 million people, more than half of Sudan’s population, in urgent need of help for survival.
According to a Gospel worker, referred to as John for security reasons, the current state of Sudan is unimaginable to many of its residents. He highlights that displaced individuals often feel they lack a country to return to. Famine is also prevalent in various regions, exacerbating the crisis.
Despite the challenges, there is a significant spiritual shift occurring, with more individuals converting from Islam to Christianity than ever before during their ministry. John emphasizes that many Sudanese are seeking inner peace, and while traditional faith has offered little solace, there is emerging hope.
John’s organization, which cannot be named for security reasons, is actively engaged in evangelism, discipleship training, and trauma healing, alongside providing targeted relief efforts. Their initiatives have led to the establishment of 50 house churches and numerous baptisms within internally displaced persons (IDP) camps.
The organization has also empowered over 325 believers from 61 tribal backgrounds, enabling them to serve their communities. John urges support for the ongoing work and highlights the importance of prayer, stating, “Prayer releases God’s power for ministry.” He calls for prayer specifically focused on healing for the wounded and growth for the Church in Sudan and its diaspora.
