Team Uganda will be led by Joseph Cwinya-ai, whose leadership and experience will be pivotal against a competitive Kenyan side commanded by former Uganda Open champion John Lejirma. The Ugandan team consists of ten players, including Joseph Reagan Akena, Elton Thembo, and junior golfers Peter Mayende, and Ibrahim Ssemakula, among others. They will acclimatize for a week before the tournament begins on March 20, and three members are currently competing in the Kenya Amateur Golf series.
During the team flag-off at the National Council of Sports headquarters, Chelangat expressed confidence in the players’ abilities, remarking on their potential to succeed. She highlighted the government’s support, emphasizing the interest from the Minister of Education and Sports. The team is accompanied by national coach Flavia Namakula and manager Paul Habyarimana as they prepare for the competition.
The Kenya Golf Union has also announced its team, which features elite amateur players, including Team Captain John Lejirma.
