Libyan traveler Nouri Fonas praised the significant modernization of Erbil during his first visit to Iraq. He felt welcomed by the local community and explored various landmarks, including the historic Erbil Citadel. Fonas was particularly impressed by the beauty of the Zakho mountains, contrasting them with mountain ranges he has encountered worldwide.

During his recent visit to Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Libyan globetrotter Nouri Fonas expressed admiration for the city’s significant development and modernization. Fonas remarked, “If I had visited Erbil 20 years ago, I would not have seen the level of progress and modernization that exists today,” highlighting the remarkable changes that have taken place.

This journey marked Fonas’ inaugural trip to Iraq, where he felt an immediate sense of belonging, noting the warmth and hospitality of the Iraqi people. He explored various historical landmarks including Baghdad’s Al-Mustansiriya School and the ancient ruins of Babil, as well as the revered cities of Najaf and Karbala.

While in the Kurdistan Region, he visited the historic Erbil Citadel. Fonas, who has experienced majestic mountains around the globe, proclaimed admiration for the Zakho mountains, saying, “I have seen many of the world’s great mountain ranges, but nothing compares to the beauty of Zakho’s mountains.” He entered Iraq via the Ibrahim Khalil border after an extensive journey through several regions, including the Caucasus, Cyprus, Greece, and Turkiye.
