The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, received a donation of essential food supplies from the Turkish HUDAI Foundation to support inmates in Ghana’s prisons. The donation included items such as rice and cooking oil. The foundation is committed to humanitarian efforts in Ghana, contributing to education and infrastructure, such as constructing the Ghana National Mosque and providing clean water solutions.
The Minister for the Interior, Mr. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has officially accepted a donation of essential food supplies from the Human Development Association International (HUDAI) Foundation, a Turkish organization active in humanitarian efforts in Ghana. This donation, which is aimed at supporting inmates, reflects the foundation’s annual charitable initiatives and was presented on March 14, 2025, on behalf of the Ghana Prisons Service.
The food donation included various items: bags of rice, packs of cooking oil, cartons of tomato paste, bags of sugar, and packs of spaghetti. Expressing appreciation during the event on March 21, 2025, the Minister emphasized that such contributions assist in alleviating the hardships faced by prisoners and encouraged other organizations to offer similar assistance. He stated, “Imprisonment is not a death sentence. Providing for inmates improves their well-being and aids in their rehabilitation.”
Project Coordinator Abdurahim Yüce, speaking on behalf of HUDAI Foundation’s General Coordinator Remzi Şeker, reiterated the foundation’s commitment to humanitarian service. He highlighted that their mission is motivated by goodwill and aims to foster a positive impact, requesting only prayers in return. As part of its Ramadan initiative, the foundation has distributed over 8,000 food packages to families, particularly to those fasting, which includes individuals in prison.
The HUDAI Foundation has received support from the Turkish government and has contributed significantly to various development sectors in Ghana. Notably, it constructed the Ghana National Mosque, a 15,000-capacity building, on a 4.2-acre site in Kanda, Accra, making it the second-largest mosque in West Africa. This comprehensive mosque complex houses a library, residential apartments, a school, a clinic, and various other facilities.
Beyond religious and educational initiatives, the HUDAI Foundation has ventured into providing clean water solutions across Ghana, establishing numerous boreholes in underserved communities. In 2019, it inaugurated four electric mechanised boreholes in Tamale as part of its broader goal of constructing 100 boreholes in disadvantaged regions. Furthermore, the organization has been actively involved in building schools to aid the government’s educational reforms.
In conclusion, the donation by the HUDAI Foundation underscores the importance of supporting vulnerable populations, such as prisoners, in Ghana. Through their charitable initiatives, including food distribution and infrastructure development, the foundation showcases a remarkable commitment to humanitarian service. By enhancing the well-being of inmates, they foster rehabilitation and societal reintegration efforts, while also addressing broader community needs through educational and clean water projects.
