Israel and Argentina will commemorate the 33rd anniversary of the 1992 Israeli embassy bombing, which resulted in 29 fatalities. Hezbollah was responsible for the attack. The embassy’s “Every View Has a Story” campaign aims to share the victims’ stories. In April 2024, an Argentine court confirmed Iran and Hezbollah’s involvement in the attack and implicated certain officials in a cover-up, naming Hezbollah’s Hussein Ahmad Karaki as the mastermind behind the assaults.
Israel and Argentina will observe the 33rd anniversary of the 1992 bombing of the Israeli embassy in Buenos Aires with a memorial event scheduled for Monday. This tragic event claimed the lives of 29 individuals, comprising three Israeli embassy personnel, six local employees, and numerous Argentinean civilians, including elderly residents of a nearby nursing home and schoolchildren traveling on a bus. The Islamic militant group Hezbollah later took responsibility for this heinous attack.
In remembrance of the victims, the embassy has initiated a campaign titled, “Every View Has a Story. Every Story Deserves to Be Told.” The memorial will unfold at the original site of the embassy, paying homage to those lost and seeking to illuminate their unique stories. The embassy’s promotional video stated, “Through the eyes of survivors and families, we remember the tragedy and honor their stories. Each gaze holds a unique tale, filled with suffering, resilience, and hope. Today, more than three decades later, these gazes ask us not to forget.”
In April 2024, a federal court in Argentina officially attributed responsibility for the bombing to Iran and Hezbollah, asserting they were instrumental in “organizing, planning, financing, and executing” the assault. The court implicated numerous current and former Iranian political and military leaders, many of whom enjoyed diplomatic immunity during that period.
Additionally, several Argentine officials were accused of manipulating evidence and attempting to obscure the truth surrounding the incident. Following the identification of Iranian and Hezbollah involvement, Defense Minister Patricia Bullrich revealed that the mastermind behind the attacks was Hussein Ahmad Karaki, the head of Hezbollah operations in Latin America, linking him to various historical and recent assaults.
The commemoration of the 33rd anniversary of the Buenos Aires embassy bombing serves as a poignant reminder of the lives lost and the enduring pain felt by survivors and families. The acknowledgment of Iranian and Hezbollah’s culpability reaffirms the importance of seeking justice for victims of terrorism while highlighting the ongoing need to remember and share their stories. Through remembrance and acknowledgment, the hope is to mitigate future tragedies and honor those affected.
