Marc Marquez claimed victory in the Argentina MotoGP on March 16, 2025, defeating his brother Alex, thereby continuing his strong start to the season. This win marked his 90th career grand prix and placed him at the top of the championship standings with 74 points, as he aims for a seventh world title. Alex Marquez narrowly missed out on his first win, securing second place and expressing his determination for future races.

Marc Marquez achieved a remarkable victory at the Argentina MotoGP on March 16, 2025, defeating his brother, Alex Marquez, for the second consecutive race this season. With this win, Marc continued his impressive start by also conquering both the sprint and the main race from pole position at the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit. This victory marked his first time winning the opening two races of a season since 2014.

Returning to the Argentine circuit for the first time since his third win there in 2019, Marc celebrated his 90th career grand prix triumph. He currently leads the riders’ standings with 74 points as he aims for a seventh world title, a feat that would match the legendary Valentino Rossi.

The 32-year-old Marc demonstrated exceptional skill throughout the race weekend, securing pole position with a record lap time and demonstrating dominance during practice sessions. The event attracted a record crowd of 209,000 MotoGP enthusiasts, significantly boosting the local population of approximately 30,000.

In the race, Alex Marquez took the lead briefly on lap four after capitalizing on a mistake from his older brother. Throughout the race, Alex maintained a strong performance and at one point had a substantial lead. However, Marc, despite a minor wobble, closed the distance and eventually took the lead on lap 18, overcoming Alex’s defenses to secure victory.

Marc stated, “Alex was pushing, and controlling the race. I thought to be second today is okay then I started to feel better, but it’s difficult to attack my brother!” He also expressed his honor in equaling the 90 grand prix wins of Spanish motorcycling icon Angel Nieto.

Alex expressed his encouragement after finishing second, saying, “I did everything I could but finally Marc passed me, it was impossible to keep him behind. I’m closer than ever for my first win!” Francesco Bagnaia, Marc’s teammate and reigning champion, finished fourth and is currently lagging over 30 points in the title race.

Notably, Miguel Oliveira withdrew from the race due to a previous incident but escaped serious injury, while reigning champion Jorge Martin remains sidelined due to injuries sustained in Thailand. A fan’s banner captured the sentiment of many in attendance: “MotoGP is not the same without you.”

In summary, Marc Marquez secured his victory in the Argentina MotoGP, showcasing his prowess and solidifying his lead in the championship standings. The race highlighted the fierce competition within the Marquez family, with Alex coming close to his first win. This event not only reinforced Marc’s legacy but also demonstrated the ongoing excitement in the MotoGP season.
