Ohlthaver & List Group (O&L) announced that the Pick n Pay Namibia stores will officially be rebranded as Model starting on July 1. This change follows O&L’s decision to end its franchise agreement with Pick n Pay South Africa after 27 years of operation in Namibia, with the termination effective June 30, 2025.
Graeme Mouton, Managing Director of Model, indicated that specific details about the new brand will be kept confidential for the time being. However, he assured customers of a fresh retail approach featuring quality products and a tailored shopping experience. “Customers can look forward to a new benchmark in grocery retail that is designed around their needs – one that is inspiring, seamless and uniquely Namibian,” Mouton stated.
The official launch of Model is set for July 1, 2025, with current efforts focusing on a phased refurbishment plan aimed at enhancing the overall shopping experience. Mouton encouraged Namibians to join in on this journey, emphasizing the excitement surrounding the future retail experience. “The countdown to a revolutionary retail experience has begun,” he remarked.
O&L Executive Chairman Sven Thieme noted that the origin of their retail journey traces back to Model in 1965, and now, they are revisiting this heritage with renewed vigor. Thieme described the transition as more than just a rebranding; it signifies a significant evolution in the shopping experience for Namibians. “Our commitment to our people, both employees and customers, remains unchanged, ensuring continuity in service while introducing fresh opportunities for growth and excellence,” he asserted.
In summary, Ohlthaver & List Group is set to replace Pick n Pay Namibia with a wholly Namibian-owned brand called Model, starting July 1. This transition marks a return to the company’s roots while introducing a new retail approach designed to enhance the shopping experience for customers. With promises of quality products and thoughtful curation, Model aims to redefine the grocery retail landscape in Namibia.
