Raisina Dialogue Addressing Global Trade Policies and Geopolitical Challenges

The Raisina Dialogue highlights trade policies and global order discussions, attracting over 120 countries. Key topics include the impact of the Trump administration’s policies, global conflicts, and strengthening India-New Zealand relations through a potential trade agreement.

The Raisina Dialogue, now in its 10th year, is organized by India’s Ministry of External Affairs and the Observer Research Foundation (ORF). The conference will commence on Monday and will attract representatives from over 120 nations, including diplomats, former state leaders, military officials, business executives, and scholars. This year’s agenda is heavily influenced by the US’s trade and security policies under former President Donald Trump, the changing global geopolitical landscape, and ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia.

The event will feature foreign ministers from approximately 20 countries, including Ukraine, the Maldives, Nepal, Bhutan, Peru, Norway, Estonia, Sweden, Hungary, and Ghana. The overarching theme for this year is “Kālachakra – People, Peace and Planet,” which will be explored through six key pillars: Politics Interrupted, Resolving the Green Trilemma, Digital Planet, Militant Mercantilism, The Tiger’s Tale, and Investing in Peace.

On the sidelines of the conference, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is scheduled to meet with New Zealand’s Prime Minister Chris Luxon. Jaishankar expressed appreciation for Luxon’s commitment to enhance India-New Zealand relations via social media. The two leaders plan to discuss the bilateral relationship further during their meeting on Monday, emphasizing the importance of strengthening cooperation across various sectors.

During Luxon’s visit, India and New Zealand have jointly announced the resumption of their negotiations for a comprehensive free trade agreement (FTA). This development was confirmed in a meeting between Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and his New Zealand counterpart Todd McClay on Sunday. Luxon highlighted that his government aims to fortify economic ties and enhance security collaboration in the Indo-Pacific region, having worked diligently over the past year to rekindle relations with India.

The Raisina Dialogue serves as a crucial platform for addressing significant geopolitical issues, including trade and security policies shaping the global landscape. With diverse international representation and detailed thematic discussions, the conference aims to foster dialogue on pressing matters. The ongoing collaboration between India and New Zealand, particularly regarding the reestablishment of a free trade agreement, further underscores these nations’ commitment to enhancing diplomatic and economic ties.
