Recent races in Argentina have resulted in new fastest laps in Moto2™ and Moto3™, significantly faster than previous records. Jake Dixon set a new best lap in Moto2™ with 1’41.639, while Ángel Piqueras recorded 1’47.249 in Moto3™. Several competitors outperformed past lap times, reflecting a marked improvement in overall racing performance and tyre efficiency.
Recent races in Argentina have marked a significant improvement in lap times, with new fastest laps recorded in both Moto2™ and Moto3™ categories, surpassing not only the previous year’s records but also all-time lap records.
In Moto2™, British rider Jake Dixon achieved victory while setting a new best race lap of 1’41.639 on the seventh lap, nearly 1.2 seconds quicker than the record established by Celestino Vietti in 2022, and more than eight-tenths faster than the all-time lap record.
Ángel Piqueras, competing in Moto3™, also emerged victorious, completing a lap in 1’47.249 on lap 16, significantly advancing upon the previous 2022 race record by almost 1.6 seconds, and outpacing Sergio Garcia’s all-time record by almost 1.2 seconds.
The overall pace of the races was notably high, with 18 out of 27 Moto2™ riders finishing under the previous best race lap time, along with 11 of them beating the all-time lap record. In Moto3™, all competitors clocked in faster than the earlier best lap times established in 2022.
Tyre selection played a crucial role, particularly in Moto2™, where all riders opted for the soft SC1 front tyre and soft SC0 rear tyre. The Moto3™ riders exhibited a diverse strategy, predominantly employing a soft SC1 front and a medium SC2 rear. Notably, Taiyo Furusato, who began the race in the 14th position, captured a commendable fifth place, representing the highest achievement among those utilizing the soft SC1 rear tyre.
The performance of the tyres throughout the weekend has been regarded as exemplary. Observations highlighted that despite this being the riders’ first experience on this track with the specific tyres, competency was quickly demonstrated. In both races, new lap times were over a second faster than their predecessors and significantly surpassed the previous all-time records. This collective advancement reflects notable gains considering the demanding nature of the circuit, particularly given its history of challenging conditions for tyre performance.
The recent motorcycle races in Argentina produced unprecedented improvements in lap times for both Moto2™ and Moto3™, with new records eclipsing those set in 2022 and even the all-time benchmarks. The riders effectively demonstrated superior performance, assisted by strategic tyre choices and enhanced racing conditions, affirming the evolving competitive landscape of the sport. Both categories showcased high-speed achievements that will have a lasting impact on the records and the future of motorcycle racing.
