Cote d’Ivoire’s gold production is projected to reach a record 62 metric tons this year, driven by the Lafigue mine, expected to produce between 180,000 and 210,000 ounces in 2025. This initiative is part of the country’s broader strategy to diversify income sources and enhance its mining sector.
Cote d’Ivoire’s gold output is anticipated to reach an unprecedented high this year, driven by contributions from the newly inaugurated Lafigue mine, according to Jean-Claude Diplo, a prominent industry official. This West African nation, recognized as the world’s largest cocoa producer, is actively seeking to enhance its mining sector to diversify its income streams.
The Lafigue mine, situated approximately 500 kilometers north of Abidjan and operated by Endeavour Mining, is projected to yield between 180,000 and 210,000 ounces of gold in 2025. Diplo noted that gold production in Cote d’Ivoire is expected to increase to 62 metric tons in 2025, up from 58 tons in 2024.
Diplo emphasized that the growth in production is largely due to the Lafigue mine entering full-scale production, as well as significant investments occurring in major mining endeavors. This trend of increasing output has been consistent over several years, positioning Ivory Coast to potentially surpass Mali and Burkina Faso in gold production and match Ghana’s levels.
He stated, “We have the potential to go very fast… If we are disciplined, as we are today, we will be on par with Ghana in 2030, according to our projections.” In addition to Endeavour Mining, other notable companies such as Barrick Gold, Perseus Mining, and Roxgold are also active in the Ivory Coast mining landscape.
Cote d’Ivoire is set to achieve a record high in gold production this year, primarily facilitated by the Lafigue mine. The projected output growth from 58 to 62 metric tons emphasizes the country’s commitment to expanding its mining sector. With disciplined investment and production strategies, Ivory Coast aspires to compete closely with Ghana’s gold outputs by 2030.
