Sheikh Mohamed extended condolences to the victims’ families and conveyed wishes for a swift recovery to the injured, as reported by the state news agency Wam.
During their conversation, Sheikh Mohamed reiterated the commitment of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to stand in solidarity with Somalia, firmly denouncing all forms of violence and terrorism. In response, President Mohamud expressed gratitude for the UAE’s support and concern during these challenging times.
Earlier that day, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs published a statement that condemned the attack. The assault, perpetrated by the Al Shabaab group, targeted President Mohamud’s convoy while it was traveling through Mogadishu, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries. Minister of State Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan also communicated the UAE’s condolences and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
