Kudakwashe Tagwirei faces allegations of corruption and monopolizing government contracts, as war veteran Blessed Geza warns of actions against him. Tagwirei’s influence in key economic sectors, coupled with accusations of past corruption, has resulted in calls for accountability from war veterans, highlighting broader issues of corruption in Zimbabwe under Mnangagwa’s leadership.
Kudakwashe Tagwirei, an ally of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, faces criticism from war veterans, particularly from Blessed “Bombshell” Geza. Geza has accused Tagwirei of monopolizing essential economic sectors for corrupt purposes, alleging that he exploits his closeness to the president to gain government contracts improperly.
Tagwirei is embroiled in controversies within the ruling party, with accusations of corruptly securing several government projects. Geza warned Tagwirei and his associates, emphasizing that the war veterans will take action against them, stating that Tagwirei’s monopolization of contracts is unacceptable and could lead to Zimbabwe’s economic ruin.
Among Tagwirei’s business achievements are a multimillion-dollar contract for the construction of the Mbudzi Interchange flyover, expanding business interests in mining, and dominating the fuel sector. He also oversees the Command Agriculture programme and chairs the Land Tenure Implementation Committee. His firm, Sakunda Holdings, was reportedly involved in a $3 billion missing funds scandal in the Ministry of Agriculture.
Due to these actions, the United States government has sanctioned Tagwirei, accusing him of fostering corruption among high-ranking officials. Geza articulated that corruption has worsened under Mnangagwa’s leadership, attributing it to cronyism and warning that the country’s quest for economic freedom is being undermined by these corrupt practices.
The ongoing conflict between Kudakwashe Tagwirei and war veterans reflects deep-rooted issues of corruption and cronyism within Zimbabwe’s governance. Blessed Geza’s strong warnings underline a growing frustration among veterans regarding the state’s direction under President Mnangagwa. The situation raises concerns about the long-term implications for Zimbabwe’s economy and governance if such corrupt practices persist without accountability.
