His disappearance has sparked outrage among Sindhi nationalists and caused significant distress for his family, as his whereabouts remain unknown after several weeks.
JSFM characterized Laghari’s abduction as reflective of a larger trend of state repression against Sindhi activists. In their statement, they articulated, “Pakistan continues to forcibly disappear Sindhi activists, journalists, and human rights defenders, using fear and repression to silence those who demand justice and self-determination.” Besides human rights violations, JSFM highlighted what they termed an economic and environmental assault on Sindh, citing the illegal construction of canals on the Indus River that diverts water to Punjab, jeopardizing the survival of millions of Sindhis.
Concerns over human rights abuses precipitated a significant protest outside the Pakistan Embassy in London on March 15, 2025, organized by the World Sindhi Congress (WSC). Attended by JSFM Chairman Sohail Abro, the protest aimed to alert the global community regarding the unlawful canal construction and the ongoing issue of enforced disappearances affecting Sindhi nationalists. “We demand the immediate release of Taiib Laghari and all forcibly disappeared Sindhi activists,” stated Abro.
JSFM’s call to action has extended to international bodies including the United Nations and Amnesty International, urging them to address Pakistan’s alleged human rights abuses. Their statement encapsulated the urgency: “Sindh is under attack–its people are being abducted, and its water is being stolen.
