On March 21, 2025, the Joint Command and Staff College (JCSC), under the leadership of Deputy Commandant Brigadier David Chesire, conducted a courtesy visit to the Republic of Seychelles. This visit was part of a regional study tour themed ‘Enhancing Regional Security through Strengthening Industrial Capacity and Defence Partnership’. The delegation was received at State House in Victoria by His Excellency President Wavel Ramkalawan.
Brigadier Chesire expressed gratitude to President Ramkalawan for the warm welcome, highlighting the strong and cordial relations between Kenya and Seychelles. He also thanked the various institutions in Seychelles for their hospitality and support during the visit.
President Ramkalawan addressed the delegation, emphasizing the importance of attributes such as focus, loyalty, and patriotism. He encouraged the student officers to “remain true to your countries and your commitments,” urging them to stay dedicated to their mission of fostering a secure and prosperous future.
The gathering also included key figures such as Major General Michael Rosette, the Chief of Defence Forces of the Seychelles People’s Defence Forces, along with other senior military officers. The Kenyan delegation comprised Colonel Lois Wataka, the Kenya Defence Attaché, along with faculty members and student officers representing nations like Kenya, Burundi, South Africa, Tanzania, and Zambia.
The courtesy visit by the JCSC delegation to Seychelles underscored the significance of international military cooperation and the strengthening of defense partnerships in the region. President Ramkalawan’s encouraging words on loyalty and dedication serve as a reminder of the vital role that military leaders play in the pursuit of national security and prosperity.
