During formal ceremonies held at Malacañan Palace, President Marcos received the credentials of Ambassador Edgar Rodrigo Rojas Garavito from Colombia, Ambassador Sin Saream from Cambodia, and Ambassador Yuliia Oleksandrivna Fediv from Ukraine.
In a meeting with the Colombian ambassador, Marcos emphasized the potential for deepening bilateral relations and exploring shared sectors of interest, while Rojas Garavito reaffirmed Colombia and the Philippines’ mutual goals for sustainable peace and development. Diplomatic relations between the two countries began on July 5, 1946, and currently, approximately 100 Filipinos reside in Colombia.
The President also expressed his intention to elevate ties with Cambodia, acknowledging the existing strong rapport. He welcomed Ambassador Sin Saream and anticipated forging even closer connections to benefit both nations, citing the formal establishment of diplomatic relations on August 20, 1957, and the presence of around 7,500 Filipinos in Cambodia.
With respect to Ukraine, Ambassador Fediv expressed her commitment to fostering relations, particularly focusing on initiatives that promote peace and mutual respect. President Marcos reiterated the Philippines’ support for Ukraine’s pursuit of peace, acknowledging the long-standing diplomatic relations formed on April 7, 1992, and the small community of about 24 Filipinos residing in Ukraine.
