A military source reported to Anadolu Agency that the army successfully advanced into the Libya Market after engaging in combat with the RSF. The renewed control of the market followed the army’s recent recovery of adjacent neighborhoods. Additionally, social media videos were shared by Sudanese army personnel, depicting their operations within the market, a notable landmark in Sudan’s capital.
With the army now controlling the “Libya Market,” a stronghold for the RSF in Omdurman, they are positioned to expand their influence further into western Omdurman, an area still under RSF occupation. This comes as the army recently seized control of significant portions of Khartoum and the city of Bahri in the last few days.
On Thursday, the Sudanese army disclosed that it had eradicated the last remnants of the RSF in Khartoum province, successfully reclaiming control of Khartoum Airport and key military sites for the first time since April 2023. The ongoing conflict has had dire humanitarian consequences, with the death toll surpassing 20,000 and approximately 15 million people displaced, according to both United Nations and local officials.
Recent assessments denote that the RSF has retreated from various regions, including Khartoum and adjacent states. Out of Sudan’s 18 states, the RSF retains control of scattered areas mostly within western and southern Omdurman, as well as parts of North and West Kordofan. In contrast, the Sudanese army controls significant territories, including Al-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, amidst the tumult in the Darfur region.
