Jamaica is preparing to host the 49th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in July 2025. At a recent JIS Think Tank, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, announced that Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness will chair the meeting starting July 1.
Key issues set to be discussed include trade and security, critical factors affecting economic growth in the region. Senator Johnson Smith highlighted Prime Minister Holness’s leadership in addressing these matters, emphasizing the importance of discussing transnational crime comprehensively. The CARICOM meeting will take place just after the International Conference on Financing for Development, held in Seville, Spain, from June 30 to July 3. As a result, the CARICOM meeting will be held later than previously scheduled to accommodate Heads of Government, many of whom also serve as Finance Ministers, allowing them to participate in both meetings.
