Groundbreaking Ceremony for China-Aid Project Enhances Liberian Health Care

On December 20, Liberia’s Ministry of Defense held a groundbreaking ceremony for the China-Aid Project of the National Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment Laboratory, attended by Chinese Ambassador Yin Chengwu and President Joseph Boakai. The project aims to enhance medical services for the military and the entire population, reflecting strong bilateral ties and a commitment to improving health outcomes in Liberia.

On December 20, the Republic of Liberia’s Ministry of Defense celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony for a significant initiative: the China-Aid Project of the National Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment Laboratory. Distinguished attendees included His Excellency Yin Chengwu, the Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, and His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, President of the Republic of Liberia. Joining them were Hon. Geraldine Janet George, Minister of National Defense, Cllr. N. Oswald Tweh, Minister of Justice, and Mr. Ji Kecheng, CFO of Shandong Hi-Speed Group, among other dignitaries.

Ambassador Yin Chengwu emphasized that this project underscores China’s commitment to the outcomes of the meetings between the leaders of China and Liberia as well as the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). He described the initiative as a crucial collaboration between China and Liberia aimed at advancing the Partnership Action for Health and Common Security. The completion of the laboratory is anticipated to mark a significant milestone for the 14th Military Hospital and Armed Forces, providing high-quality medical services to both military personnel and the general populace of Liberia. Ambassador Yin expressed hope that the project would further the ARREST agenda and promote a China-Africa Community with a Shared Future.

President Boakai expressed his sincerest appreciation to the Chinese Government for its support, stating that the project exemplifies the strong bilateral friendship between the two nations. He remarked that the advanced diagnostic and treatment facilities will serve not only the military but also help in delivering quality medical services to the entire population. Other attendees also conveyed their gratitude and pledged to utilize the project effectively to enhance healthcare services for the Liberian people.
