A Tanzanian delegation from the ruling CCM, led by Secretary-General Dr. Emmanuel Nchimbi, has arrived in Namibia to honor the late Dr. Sam Nujoma at his state funeral on March 1, 2025. They will participate in various events starting February 27, organized by SWAPO, marking the solidarity between the two parties throughout their shared history of liberation struggles.

A delegation from Tanzania’s ruling party, Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), led by Secretary-General Dr. Emmanuel Nchimbi, has arrived in Namibia to attend the state funeral of Dr. Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma, Namibia’s founding president. The delegation landed at Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek on February 26, 2025, and was received by Tanzania’s Ambassador to Namibia, Caesar Waitara.

The CCM delegation is set to engage in several remembrance events for Dr. Nujoma, commencing on February 27, 2025, leading up to the official state funeral scheduled for March 1, 2025. The ruling party of Namibia, SWAPO, a historical ally of CCM, has organized various ceremonies to honor its founding leader.

On February 28, Dr. Nchimbi is anticipated to attend a national memorial service before partaking in the funeral at Heroes’ Acre cemetery on March 1. Namibia and Tanzania boast a deep-rooted relationship, with CCM and SWAPO continually collaborating since their joint struggle against colonialism and apartheid.

Dr. Nujoma, who became Namibia’s first democratically elected president after the country gained independence from South African apartheid, passed away on February 8, 2025, at the age of 95. In 2005, he was officially recognized as the “Founding Father of the Namibian Nation” through a parliamentary act.

The arrival of the CCM delegation in Namibia underscores the enduring relationship between Tanzania and Namibia, rooted in a history of mutual support during significant political struggles. The series of events to honor Dr. Sam Nujoma reflects the esteem in which he is held as the “Founding Father” of Namibia. This memorial honors not only Dr. Nujoma’s legacy but also the solidarity shared between CCM and SWAPO through their combined historical efforts for independence.
