His educational journey encompasses studying philosophy at the Faculty of Theology of Uruguay and theology at the prestigious Centre Sèvres in Paris. Further enhancing his academic credentials, he obtained a Master’s and Doctorate in Canon Law and Philosophy of Law from Université Paris II, Institut Catholique de Paris, and Universidad Católica Argentina (UCA). Ordained a priest in 2010 by Bishop Nicolás Cotugno at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Montevideo, Father Álvaro has since held significant positions, including Director of the Department of Philosophy, Dean of Law, and Vice-Rector for University Environment at the Catholic University of Uruguay from 2011 to 2021. He also served as the Parish Administrator of Nuestra Señora de Fátima, Montevideo, from 2014 to 2018. Additionally, he has been a Judge on the Ecclesiastical Tribunal of the Archdiocese of Montevideo since 2012. At present, he holds the position of Rector of the Seminary College in Montevideo and is the Superior of its community.
