MTN Nigeria will relocate its headquarters to Eko Atlantic City, aligning with other major corporations like First Bank and Dangote Group. CEO Karl Toriola reaffirmed the company’s commitment to investment in Lagos, signaling confidence in Eko Atlantic’s potential. The site is also seeing the development of a significant data center, further establishing Nigeria’s reputation in the digital space.
MTN Nigeria, the leading mobile network operator in the country, is relocating its headquarters to Eko Atlantic City, a developing area that is attracting significant corporate interest. Alongside MTN, other major companies such as First Bank and the Dangote Group have also chosen to establish operations in this strategic location. The United States Embassy plans to build a new diplomatic facility there, drawn by the promise of modern infrastructure and a well-planned urban environment.
CEO Karl Toriola confirmed on Wednesday that MTN’s new headquarters will be built in Eko Atlantic, four years after initial plans were announced. As the first telecom operator to establish a presence in the coastal city, MTN’s commitment highlights Eko Atlantic’s potential as a premier business hub in Nigeria. Toriola emphasized the company’s long-term investment intentions in Lagos, stating, “Beyond connectivity, we are committed to making long-term investments in Lagos.”
Eko Atlantic City was initiated in 2008, with efforts focused on land reclamation. Strategically located near Victoria Island, Lagos’ main financial district, the city aims to be the most advanced commercial center in the area, appealing to corporations and real estate investors seeking modern business environments.
While Toriola did not provide specific construction costs for the new headquarters, estimates suggest expenditures would be substantial. Costs for land in Eko Atlantic vary across three development phases: Phases 1 and 2 are primarily for mid- to high-rise buildings and start at $1,150 per square meter, while Phase 3, designated for low-rise residential structures, begins at $1,050 per square meter.
Additionally, MTN is developing West Africa’s largest Tier 4 data center in Lagos. This facility will serve as a neutral hub for various Internet Service Providers and cloud service providers. Although it will not be located within Eko Atlantic, Toriola mentioned that with advanced connectivity capabilities, it will significantly enhance Nigeria’s reputation in digital technology.
MTN Nigeria’s decision to relocate its headquarters to Eko Atlantic City marks a significant development in the region’s corporate landscape, reinforcing the area’s appeal for established companies and government entities. The potential of Eko Atlantic as a leading business hub in Nigeria is further confirmed by the construction of a major data center, highlighting the country’s ongoing digital transformation efforts. As more firms express interest in the area, Eko Atlantic is poised to become a key player in Nigeria’s economic future.
