On Saturday, Kenyans gathered in large numbers at Sabata home in Kiminini Sub County to commemorate the final journey of Wafula Wanyonyi Chebukati, the former Chair of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). The occasion turned into a significant memorial, as speakers paid heartfelt tributes, recognizing Chebukati’s honesty, integrity, and dedication to public service.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi led the tributes, referring to Chebukati as a true servant of the people who exemplified unwavering integrity. The Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetangula, described him as a leader devoted to the Constitution, highlighting his unique achievement of overseeing three presidential elections. Wetangula commended Chebukati’s capacity to manage the divisive climate during the 2022 elections with credibility.

The late Chebukati is survived by his wife and three children: Jonathan, Emmanuel, and Racheal.
